Udupi, Apr 11: “The Lokayukta will take up investigation into the environmental management defects committed by Udupi Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL) thermal power plant near Padubidri, if there is a complaint, said Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice N Santosh Hegde.

He was replying to questions raised by the press persons during his visit to Jumma Masjid near Padubidri in the taluk on Saturday April 9. "If people feel that the department of environment has not been properly recording and taking action about damage to environment caused by the UPCL, the aggrieved can file a complaint with the Lokayukta, against the chairman and secretary of Karnataka Environment Pollution Control Board.

The Lokayukta will investigate the truth behind the complaint, and take action against erring officials at the earliest,” he said. His visit to the mosque was private.
