Mangalore: Compensation Paid to Family that Lost Child to Sorcery

Mangalore, Apr 9: Taluk assistant commissioner, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, disbursed a cheque amounting two lac rupees, disbursed out of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the family of ill-fated Priyanka, a three-year-old girl, who lost her life to black magic in December last. The family hails from Yayyady Kampadakody in the town.

Priyanka’s father, Firankumar Jha, and mother, Anjali Devi, came to the office to receive the cheque, along with their two children, Pankaj (7) and Neeraj (18 months). State Chief Minister, Yeddyurappa, had also announced to provide a site to the family, and this promise needs to be fulfilled by the city corporation here.

Jha hails from Madhubani district in Bihar, and was working for Giryas, a show room of electronic goods and household equipments in Bangalore for about two decades before being posted at the local show room of the same company three years back. His child became the victim of sorcery practised by Kamalaksha Purusha, who was their neighbour, on December 16, 2010. Purusha and his foster daughter, Chandrakala, are in judicial custody relating to this crime.

Firan said that he has been asked by his house owner to vacate the rented accommodation by this month end, and that he is searching for a rented house. He said that the city corporation has been processing allotment of a site to him as promised by the Chief Minister.
