Mangaluru, Aug 4: Generally, during monsoon, the clouds are formed over a vast area and then it rains. However, the rain that the district of Dakshina Kannada (DK) is experiencing in the recent past is limited to a very limited area.

Since some days, incessant rains are lashing within a taluk or Hobali in a devastating manner. According to officials of meteorological department, this is a clean indication of shift in the weather pattern.

Sullia, Subramanya, Yenekallu, Kalmakaru, Hariharapallathadka and Kollamogru received heavy rainfall from August 1. However, the neighbouring taluks including Puttur experienced only moderate rains.

Similarly, a few days ago, Mangaluru city received heavy rains while neighbouring Moodbidri and Bantwal did not receive much rain.

On August 2, Byndoor and Shiru were lashed with copious amounts of rain, while neighbouring Udupi did not receive rain.

This suggests that the rain is limited to a maximum area of 20 to 30 km unlike earlier monsoons. This can be assessed only by research say that experts.

According to Prasad, officer at the weather department, “In the recent days, weather is drastically changing within a limited area of 30 to 40 km. Prima facie this looks like the situation is due to the changes in the moisture in the air. This can be called as Localised Effect. If one part of the area has got more moisture and the other one lower, the area which has more moisture will receive rain. In addition, in recent days, differences in temperature are noticed in different party of same city itself. Air pollution and population may be the contribution factors also for this phenomenon. However, exact reason can be known only through extensive research.”
