Bengaluru, Jul 30: The results of Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to professional courses in Karnataka for the academic year 2022-23 have been published on Saturday. For a change, boys are toppers in all the sections.
Announcing the CET results for admissions to Engineering, Agriculture, Naturopathy and Yoga, Animal Husbandry and Pharmacy courses, Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said except Naturopathy boys have secured the first nine ranks in all other sections.
Boys have grabbed all the first 9 ranks in the Engineering section with all the rank-winners hailing from Bengaluru. Significantly, students who studied in CBSC have secured the maximum ranks.
Dr Narayan said 7 grace marks were awarded for students in this year’s CET examinations, which included 5 for Mathematics and 1 each for Chemistry and Physics.
A total of 2,16,449 students had applied for CET examinations, of whom 2,20,839 appeared. CET examinations were conducted across 489 centres.
Online scrutiny of documents
The minister said online scrutiny of all documents will commence from August 5. Documents of 10% of students Defence, NCC, Sports and Physically Challenged quotas will be physically scrutinised.
After the publishing of NEET examination results, Dr Narayan said the marks obtained in NEET examinations will be considered before starting the admission process of Medical, Dental, Ayurveda and Homeopathy courses.
The minister explained that all processes of Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) will be conducted online taking into consideration the problems during counselling and scrutiny of documents.
Arrangements for obtaining certificates of income, caste, study declaration, studies in rural areas, linguistic minorities etc. have been made through the relevant authorities online. Except for CBSC and ICSCE students, PUC marks cards of all students who have studied in the State syllabus will be obtained by KEA through online for allotting the seats.
The minister explained that the government wants to enable the students to submit applications easily from their homes by using technology and said the necessary software is being upgraded. The final testing is being done to introduce student-friendly system, he said.
The software of KEA helpline is also being upgraded to ensure that even if 1000 candidates were to call at a time. This will solve all doubts and problems, he said.
KEA Executive Director Ramya said students who passed II PUC last year had appeared for CET examination this year and the rankings of such students will be decided only on the basis of the CET marks. Normally, CET and II PUC marks are considered by the KEA. But in view of the Covid pandemic, II PUC examinations could not be held last year and, therefore, the ranking was decided based on only CET marks. This is being followed this time too, Ramya said.
She explained that about 24,000 students of last year had appeared for CET examination this year. Though these students are demanding that CET ranking must be decided on the basis of II PUC marks, it is not possible to concede the request.
She pointed out that accepting the demand of last year’s students were to be accepted, it would be injustice to the students who secured CET ranking and studying in other colleges.
The results have been published in the KEA website: http://karresults.nic.in
