Mumbai, Mar 30: Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan, on Monday March 28, felicitated well-known writer and novelist Shobha De for raising the highest amount of funds for a charitable organization.
De was felicitated at the charity award presentation ceremony organized by the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon and the United Way of Mumbai in the metro. She raised Rs 25,10,000 for the NGO Childline India Foundation during the Mumbai Marathon held on January 16, 2011.
Maharashtra Legislative Assembly opposition leader Eknath Khadse, ministers Chhagan Bhujbal and Anil Deshmukh, and Sheriff of Mumbai Indu Shahani were present on the occasion.
Various individual and corporate fund raisers and press photographers were felicitated on the occasion.
An amount of Rs 54 crore was raised during the last eight editions of the marathon for nearly 100 non-governmental organisations working in the areas of education, healthcare, and disability. This year alone an amount of Rs 12 crore was raised for charity during the marathon.
