Mangaluru, Jul 23: the department of Higher Education in Karnataka has decided to follow uniform academic time table for all the universities in the state. It has instructed the new degree classes to begin from August 17.
The irony is that the lessons for the academic year of 2021-22 are not yet completed in the degree colleges that fall under the purview of Mangalore University. Hence, the students who have secured admission under NEP do not have classrooms to sit.
The same situation prevails in many other universities also. One and a half month more is required for completion of 2021-22 academic year. So accommodating new students is not possible.
Two months are over since the results of PU were announced. Already months is over after the admission process of degree classes got over. But the students cannot attend college due to seating problems. The classes are going to be held till end of August and examinations for the current academic year will be held in September. Then at least 10 days are required for evaluation of answer papers. Then only the first year degree classes will begin.
Due to delay in evaluating answer papers and a week’s holiday due to heavy rain has also upset the time table. In the next few days’ internal examination, college day etc programmes are also there. So more days are required to complete the present academic year’s syllabus.
Though the first examination under much-awaited NEP is over, evaluation is not yet begun. At present all lecturers are busy in last phase of lessons and if they are sent to evaluation of answer papers, the syllabus coverage will get delayed further.
Dr Kishore Kumar C K, registrar of administration of Mangalore University said, “The government has sent instructions to begin new academic year from August 17. However, it will take some time for colleges under Mangalore University as well as other universities for the current academic year to get completed. So we will wait for the directive of the government with regard to the beginning of classes for new students.”
