Mangaluru, Jul 18: District health officer of Kannur informed that a youth, who had arrived from overseas and landed at Mangaluru international airport, is admitted to Periyaram medical college as symptoms of monkeypox were found on him.
The officer said that the youth himself got admitted to the hospital as he felt his health is not okay. Samples of youth is sent for laboratory. Only after the results arrive, it will be confirmed whether he has monkeypox or not. At present, the youth is kept in isolation and vigil. The first case of monkeypox was registered in Kerala on July 12.
As the news of monkeypox reported from Kerala, special monitoring is being done in Dakshina Kannada district. As a precaution a ward with 10 beds is kept reserved in Wenlock hospital for monkeypox patients. All the passengers arriving from overseas are subjected to medical tests.
District surveillance officer Dr Jagadish said that so far no cases of monkeypox are reported in Dakshina Kannada. As a precaution screening for this disease is done at the airport. The chances of this disease spreading as fast as Covid is very less.”
