Bengaluru, Jul 17: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee will be staging a protest to lay siege to the Raj Bhavan on July 21, the day of the commencement of the Parliament session, against the harassment of Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald issue.
Addressing a news conference in Bengaluru on Sunday, the KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar said the Congress party will organise mass protests against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government for harassing its political opponents by misusing the Central investigating agencies as well as Constitutional institutions.
The former Congress President Rahul Gandhi was interrogated by the Enforcement Directorate authorities for over 50 days over a period of 5 days. Now, the same ED authorities are harassing Sonia Gandhi, the KPCC Chief said and attacked the Modi government for not producing any clinching evidence against Rahul Gandhi or Ms Gandhi.
Shivakumar said the state Congress leaders will assemble at the Freedom Park and march in a procession to Raj Bhavan for laying siege on July 21. He asked all the party men to assemble at Freeddom Park unmindful of the police harassment, including arrests.
All district units of the party will organise similar protests in their respective district headquarters on July 22, he said.
The KPCC chief said the party will organise a 75-km long padayatra from August 1 to 10 in the districts and a march with national flag from Sangolli Rayanna Circle to Basavanagudi on August 15 to hold a massive public meeting at Basavanagudi.
