Puttur, Jul 17: The Vehicle drivers had heated arguments with the police at Gundya over allowing vehicles approaching from Hassan to pass through the ghat while not allowing thosr from the other side.
Vehicles carrying goods from Mangaluru to Bengaluru were standing in a huge queue at Gundya as Hassan district administration ordered the closure of vehicular movement on Shiradi Ghat due to landslides from Friday.
The police on duty had stopped the vehicles going from Mangaluru to Bengaluru on the morning of Saturday at Gundya. When these vehicle drivers saw some vehicles approaching the end of the ghat from Hassan, they got agitated and got into a verbal duel with the police.
The police of Dakshina Kannada said that they have orders not to allow vehicles from entering the ghat at Gundya but do not have any instructions on not stopping vehicles coming from Hassan. When the crowd started chanting slogans against police, they dispersed them with warning.
The police however, allowed the residents upto Maranahalli to access the ghat.
