Kasargod, Jul 13: The people of Odenchal in the district have been awestruck with a never witnessed before natural wonder.

A massive current of water which flows through a creek here just vanishes at one point. It seems like the earth is swallowing the whole stream and there is no trace of the water current beyond this pit.

However, some curious ones among the localities decided to track the vanishing water. Trailing the water was not an easy task at it took them a few kilometers away from the spot.

The research did yield another surprise. They found the water resurfacing in a farm that is located quite far away from the water vanishing point.

This natural marvel here has become a major attraction in the area.

    This is exactly like crores of Rupees vanishing from the public sector banks and the same crores resurfacing in a state capital as a fuel for Operation Lotus. There must be an underground tunnel or conduite through which this mass of liquid flows without hindrance.

    Mysterious events like earthquakes, rumbling sounds alongwith unprecedented landslides are happening in and around DK since a month, probably some kind of seismic activity is going on, which may be a warning bell for a major earthquake in the near future! These events should be investigated by an experienced team of geologists!!

    The Real Reason behind the natural Calamities in DK and near by places: The Kasturirangan committee report proposes 37 percent of the total area of the Western Ghats, which is roughly 60,000 square kilometres, to be declared as eco-sensitive area (ESA). Out of this, 20,668 sq km of the area falls in Karnataka covering 1,576 villages. The report recommended a blanket ban on mining, quarrying, setting up of red category industries and thermal power projects. It also stated that the impact of infrastructural projects on the forest and wildlife should be studied before permission is given for these activities. It also stated that the UNESCO Heritage tag is an opportunity to build global and domestic recognition of the enormous natural wealth that exists in the Western Ghats. The 39 sites are located across the Western Ghats and distributed across the states (Kerala 19), Karnataka (10), Tamil Nadu (6) and Maharashtra (4). The boundary of the sites, are in most cases, boundaries of the legally demarcated national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, tiger reserves and forest divisions and therefore, already accorded with high level of protection. The Eco-Sensitive Area mapping and demarcation done by the committee also indicates that all sites are within this area. The state governments should view this development and build a plan to protect, conserve and value the resources and opportunities of the region. The state of Karnataka has the highest percentage of the ESA- 46.50 per cent.

    May be the effect of recent earthquakes in Sullya and other arras. Earth must have caved in or created some gap for the water to flow and release at a distant place.
