Mangaluru, Jul 9: City crime branch (CCB) police arrested 12 students for possessing ganja. They were supplying ganja to the public and students in the city.
Acting on a tip-off that students are supplying ganja to college students and to the public, CCB inspector Mahesh Prasad and police sub-inspector Rajendra B and their team nabbed the students from an apartment at Sooterpete in Valencia.
The arrested are Shanoof Abdul Gafoor (21), Mohammed Raseen (22), Gokul Krishnan (22), Sharoon Anand (19), Ananthu KP (18), Amaal (21), Abhishek (21), Nidhal (21), Shaheed MTP (22), Fahid Habib (22), Mohammed Rishin (22) and Rijin Riyaz (22). All are residents of Kerala.
Police seized 900 grams of ganja worth Rs 20,000, smoking pipes, rolling papers, Rs 4,500 cash, 11 mobile phones and an electronic weighing machine. The seized items are worth Rs 2,85,000. It is leant that few more youths are involved in the drug selling racket.
All the 12 accused were subjected to medical examination out of which 11 students were found positive for consuming drugs.
The students are pursuing their education in various private colleges in the city. A case has been registered in the CEN police station.
