Mangaluru, Jul 8: It has been 12 years since Cyril D’Souza started living in a tent house near Maroli-Bikkarnakatte and is seeking help.
Twelve years ago Cyril came to Mangaluru and was staying underneath a flyover for a period of time before shifting to this place. Cyril works as a scrap collector to earn for his daily bread.
Cyril has built his tent house on his own, but the condition of the house is pathetic and is seeking for help. The house leaks frequently with unhygienic surroundings with loads of scraps around his house. Cyril has 3 pets as well, but they do not have proper shed to stay.
It was animal lover Usha Suvarna, who noticed a shivering dog loitering around Cyril’s house in the rain. Usha was curious and noticed that a man was living in a tent which is in a pathetic condition. Usha arranged for a temporary shelter for the dog and assured to help Cyril for his shelter. Usha had posted in social media about the situation of Cyril seeking help.
He is separated from his wife and has two daughters who are happily married and living in Kasargod. Unfortunately, it has been a long time since the paid a visit to Cyril’s house to check his situation. Cyril claims that due to differences between the daughter and his wife had not allowed his daughters to visit him.
He also visited deputy commissioner, tahsildar and MCC for purpose of documents. Recently he has been issued with a voter ID and an Aadhar card.
Cyril says he is in debt of around Rs 70,000 which he had taken from his scrap shop owner to repair his tent house and set up a shed in the backyard which is still incomplete.
Speaking to daijiworld, Usha Suvarna said, “Two weeks ago, I noticed a pet dog loitering around in the road. So, I became curious and I followed the dog. I could see a man staying in a tented and a dilapidated house. In the monsoon, the dog was shivering without proper shelter given to it. Anyhow, I have managed to set up a temporary shelter for the dog and I will also help Cyril get a shelter for himself. Cyril goes to collect scraps and earns his daily bread and out of his earnings he feeds his dogs as well. When you look at the condition of the house, it is completely dilapidated and untidy. I will arrange and request people around to come forward to help Cyril build his house.”
