Srinagar, Jul 7: A four-feet tall statue of the Advaitha philosopy’s proponent Sri Ramanujacharya was virtually inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Srinagar’s Shuryar temple on Thursday.

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Karnataka’s Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan along with Sri Yadugiri Yatiraja Mutt seer Sri Yadugiri Yatiraja Narayana Jear from Bengaluru were present at the function.

Sri Ramanujacharya, through his Advaitha philosophy, was also the ardent advocate of equality and had raised his voice against inequality, Shah said and pointed out that his teachings were relevant even at present. Sri Ramanuja’s teachings and ideas have contributed a lot for the survival of religion and culture, he said.

Dr Ashwath Narayan said Karnataka is proud that Sri Ramanujacharya had spent four decades in the State and had travelled for further studies to Kashmir for writing his magnum opus. The philosopher sage had visited Kashmir even after writing the book.

He said it is laudable that the Sri Yadugiri Yatiraj Mutt in Bengaluru had taken up the task of renovation of the Shuryar temple. Sri Yadugiri Yatiraja Narayana Jear hopped that the installation of the statue of the philosopher-sage, who had preached equality, peace and empowerment may lead to peace and prosperity in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
