Kundapur, Jul 3: Policemen were assaulted by two accused who had arrived from Koppa in connection with a case against them, on Saturday at Gulvadi. Police have arrested one accused in this connection.

Abdul Ravoof and Nizam, both residents of the town, are the accused who assaulted the policemen. Abdul Ravoof was arrested, while Nizam managed to escape.

Danish, a resident of Gulvadi, is accused in a case at Koppa. Koppa SI Srinath Reddy, ASI Ganga Shetty along with personnel Prashant and Amit Chowgule had come to Kundapur in connection with the case. When they went to the house of Danish at Gulvadi, his father Iqbal said that Danish had gone to Koteshwar in his vehicle.

Police went to Katkeri in Koteshwar, along with Iqbal, father of accused Danish. While on the way the police vehicle was overtaken by accused Ravoof and Nizam in a scooty and waylaid. The duo started abusing the police who were not in uniform. The accused said, “We do not care if you are police. You have tarnished our image by coming to our house. How will you go back from here? I will not allow you to leave here.”

Ravoof took a stone and aimed it at the head of SI Srinath. It missed ASI Ganga Shetty by a whisker. Another accused Nizam pulled out a police staff and did not allow them to proceed though the cops showed their ID card. Later Nizam escaped from the spot as he saw public gathering at the spot as per a complaint filed by Koppa SI Srinath.

A case is filed in this regard in Kundapur police station.
