New Delhi, Jun 30 (IANSlife): On June 29, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Christie's in London, the Impressionist and Modern Art Day and Works on Paper Sale, part of the 20/21 London to Paris auction series, will feature paintings by masters 20th century, including strong German art, section run by the Deutsche Bank Collection and sculptures from the David & Laura Finn Collection. Highlights include Paul Gauguin's View of Rouen (1884, estimate 800,000-1,200,000 pound, pictured page top left), one of the artist's plein-air paintings of his time in the French city from Rouen.

The execution of this painting foreshadows Gauguin's leading role in the Pont Aven movement and his famous Tahitian paintings. Peasant Women Carrying a Basket by Camille Pissarro (1888, estimate 450,000-650,000 pound, illustrated page two, left) is an example of the rural portraiture that occupied Pissarro for over two decades and led to some of his most better known. The surreal work Doppelkopf by Hannah Hoch (ca. 1946, estimate: 200,000 - 300,000 pound) depicting a mysterious figure with two heads, with some shapes in the painting reminiscent of Hoch's commercial textile designs.

Four works from a European private collection are sold for the benefit of a charitable foundation. The group is led by Blue Head by Joan Miro (1962, estimate: £200,000-300,000), part of a series of 54 works called Cartons, each executed on a cardboard rectangle; it shows Miro's symbolic treatment of the head, a motif to which the artist often returned.

Part of the auction is devoted to German art. The Lamp at the Window by Gabriele Münter (circa 1912, estimate: £200,000-300,000) is presented alongside a selection of 19 works from the Deutsche Bank Collection. Another highlight of the collection is Wilhelm Lehmbruck's sculpture Female Torso (Great Standing) (1910, estimate £150,000-250,000), exhibited at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt in 1980. 'The Eye Of A Sculptor: Works From The David & Laura Finn Collection', features a selection of 20th / 21st century works: London Evening Sale, as well as the Impressionist and Modern Day and Works on Paper Sale. On 29 June, the group will be led by Henry Moore's Horse (1984, estimate: £ 400,000 - 600,000).

Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale, London, 1 July 2022

On July 1, 2022 at 1pm at Christie's in London, the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day, London sale, which is also part of the 20/21 London to Paris series of sales, will feature artwork by established and contemporary names . Pop art is at the center of today's sale, with a range of key works from Andy Warhol, John Wesley and Richard Pettibone. Warhol drew his own interpretation of the dollar sign, which he later enlarged and developed into a series of screen-printed images illustrated in Dollar Sign (1981, estimate: £400,000-600,000). In light of recent Platinum Jubilee celebrations, there are two portraits of Queen Elizabeth II by Andy Warhol, both screen printed from Queens Reigning (Royal Edition) and executed in 1985 (red version, estimate: 250,000- £350,000, blue version, estimate: £200,000-300,000). This follows a recent record sale on May 9, 2022 at Christie's New York, where Andy Warhol's Shot Sage Blue Marilyn sold for $195 million at The Collection of Thomas and Doris Ammann evening sale. This made it the most expensive work of art of the 20th century to be sold at auction.

Superficie Bianca by Enrico Castellani from 1983 (estimate: £350,000-550,000) hosts a section dedicated to Italian artists and also includes Lucio Fontana's Concetto spaziale (1959, £180,000-250,000) and two embroidered works by Alighiero Boetti; Quando le parole sono stanche (When Words Are Tired) (1987, £20,000-30,000) and Per nuovi desideri (For New Desires) (circa 1987, estimate £20,000-30,000).

Reflecting the profound influence of the German artists featured in the Impressionist Day sale, the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day sale features Black Head with Blue Ears by Georg Baselitz (1985, estimate: 280 £200,000-350,000) and Spot Painting Untitled by Gunther Forg (2008, Estimate: £200,000-300,000).

The 59th Venice Biennale featured prominent female artists in its programme. The Day Sale reflects this goal and features the key work of pioneering painters; Claire Tabouret's Makeup (blue earrings) (2017, estimate: £ 100,000 - 150,000, illustrated on page 2 left), Stretched by Paula Rego (2009, estimate: £ 150,000 - 250,000) and Eileen Agar's Self-Portrait (1952, estimate: £ 8,000 - 12,000).

Joy Labinjo's The Real Thugs of Britain (2020, estimate: £ 40,000-60,000) represents the best of contemporary practice and belongs to a series that marked her initial response to the Black Lives Matter protests, based on photographs of protesters, agents of police and businessmen.

Open for online offerings between 21 June and 5 July 2022, the First Open: Post-War and Contemporary Art online sale, part of the London to Paris 20/21 sales series, features works by contemporary artists, many of them are offered in an auction platform for the first time. Christie's collaborates with Art for Tropical Forests, a charity founded by visionary art dealer Ernst Beyeler in 2002 that combines his passion for art with a dedication to the protection and conservation of tropical forests around the world. Proceeds from the sale of twelve works of art in the 20/21 series from London to Paris will be used to expand the diverse programming of Art for Tropical Forests, including habitat conservation, reforestation, forest management and strengthening of local communities. Merry Spleen IV by Sabine Moritz (2022, estimate: £ 20,000 - 30,000, page three illustrated left) is a highlight and is shown alongside works by Thilo Heinzmann, Beatriz Milhazes, Wade Guyton, Andreas Gursky and Bosco Sodi. Study for Home Visit by Caroline Walker (2016, estimate: £ 20,000 - 30,000, illustrated on page 3 right) is an important example of contemporary portraiture and indicates a new direction for figuration. Works on paper offer the viewer an intimate perspective on an artist's work and practice. The sale also includes the study by Flora Yukhnovich (2021, estimate: £ 15,000-20,000) and Mel II by Cristina Banban (2018, estimate: £ 2,000-3,000).
