Bengaluru, Jun 30: The state high court has objected to the act of putting handcuffs unlawfully while arresting the accused in any case and said that the police, while doing so, should mandatorily use body cameras.
The court has also ordered not to handcuff the accused in normal cases. Only if needed, the handcuffs should be used. It has also directed the government to give Rs 2 lac compensation to the accused in a cheque bounce case, who was handcuffed by the cops.
This order was passed by a one-member bench of justice Sooraj Govindraj, which upheld the petition of Supreet Eshwar Divate of Chikkodi in Belagavi, who sought compensation for unlawfully handcuffing him in a public place.
