Udupi, Jun 24: The price of tomato, which touched Rs 100 per kilo a month ago, has come down to Rs 60.

The price will not go down further as tomato is not being supplied from outstation districts as per demand. Tomato sellers says that the tomato is being sold at Rs 60 to Rs 80 for the past 15 days and may even touch Rs 100 again.

According to vegetable vendors, monsoon rains are lashing at some parts and may damage the tomato crop. This may result in further rise of the vegetable.

Vegetables are grown in very meagre quantities in the district. Most of them are supplied from outstation districts like Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Davanagere and Chikkamagaluru. The supply of vegetables in general has dropped due to rain as the vehicles take more time to reach.

The rate of leafy vegetables is also shot up due to rain. Prices of coriander leaves, spinach, fenugreek etc has increased.

Cabbage which was sold at Rs 25 per kilo last week has gone up to Rs 50. Similarly, beans has gone up from Rs 60 to Rs 80 and carrot is being sold at Rs 60. Cauliflower is sold at Rs 60 per kilo while its prices was Rs 40 a week ago.
