Mangaluru, Jun 11: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) unearthed fake medical certificate issuing network in the city. Sleuths of CBI raided the railway health centre near central railway station here on Friday June 10 and arrested three including additional chief medical superintendent.
This racket is said to be active since a year and the doctor has provided more than 1,500 fake medical certificates to people belonging to South Railways, South Western railway and Konkan railways.
According to sources, CBI arrested additional chief medical superintendent Dr Shivashankar Murthy, pharmacist Vijayan V A and broker Ibrahim. Sleuths of CBI have confiscated more than 1,500 pages of records.
Vendors, porters, cooks on trains and platform personnel have to submit medical fitness certificates mandatorily every year to the railway department.
The sources revealed that if Aadhar card copy was sent through WhatsApp through brokers, medical certificate was issued to people immediately. It is detected that for every certificate one has to pay Rs 525 through online mode.
