Mangaluru, June 10: As many as 70 passengers of Lakshwadeep are stranded in the Dakke (old port) without proper accommodation and food.
It is said the stranded passengers are waiting in the city waiting for the passenger train.
There are over 3000 people including children, and elderly citizens waiting for ships in Kozhikode, Kochi, and Mangaluru and suffering without proper accommodation and food.
People from Lakshadwdeep depend on the city for the purpose of education, hospitals and businesses. There are ships from Lakshadweep to Kozhikode, Kochi, and Mangaluru. It is said that earlier there were nine passenger ships from Lakshwadeep. But, unfortunately now there are only two ships and they too have been cancelled at present.
Officials say the ships have been cancelled due to technical reasons when passengers want to know why the ships are not plying between the island and west coast.
In the Lakshadweep, most of the people depend on coconut business and fishing activities. For health reasons, most people rely on Mangaluru. The people who were discharged from hospitals in the few days are now waiting for the ships to return home.
