Udupi, May 22: The newly constructed Pediatric ICU Ventilator wards with medical devices at Taluk Public Hospital in Karkala Taluk, at a cost of Rs 78.18 lakhs under Adani Foundation CSR Fund, was unveiled on Sunday, May 22.
Sunil Kumar, state minister for Energy, Kannada and Culture, and Kishore Alva, president of Adani Group jointly unveiled the 10 beds pediatric ICU ventilator wards by way of ribbon cutting.
Later the inaugural ceremony was started by way of lighting a lamp by Sunil Kumar, Kishore Alva, Maniraj Shetty, president of Karnataka Cashew Development Board, Pradeep Kurdekar, tahsildar of Karkala, Dr. Nagabhushan Udupa, district health officer of Udupi, Dr K Subramanya Rao, administrative officer, Taluk Hospital and Dr Krishnanda, taluk health officer of Karkala.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Kumar informed that during the Covid pandemic, there was a need for the taluk and district to handle the situation in terms of ICU ventilator and the demand was more for handling the Covid third wave, which was feared to affect the children. During the pandemic situation, the public and private participation was expected to provide the required medical infrastructure facilities at Government
Hospitals, he told. Minister also told that the request was made through District Administration to Adani Company to support the District in terms of providing the medical devices required to treat the covid affected people.
Thanking on the occasion, Sunil informed that responding to the District Administration’s request, Adani Foundation, under the leadership of Kishore Alva, came forward and extended the required support of Rs. 78.18 lakhs under Adani CSR for setting-up of 10 pediatric ICU ventilator beds at Taluk Hospital. He also informed that with the setting-up of sophisticated medical devices, now Karkala Taluk Hospital is not less than any of the Private Hospital.

Later Kishore Alva expressed joy about the latest medical devices installed in the Taluk Hospital. He informed that Adani with its presence in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Districts in the operations of Power Plant, Airport and Gas pipeline, has executed several developmental works under its CSR and joined hands for the development of Districts. He told that under CSR, Adani is giving prime importance to Health, Education and Rural Infrastructure development. Alva also informed that considering the emergence of new Covid variant “Omicron”, Adani Foundation has granted Rs 78.18 lakhs to Udupi District Administration for establishing 10 pediatric ICU ventilator beds and allied medical equipment in Government Hospital, Karkala, to equip Udupi district to treat affected children during 3 rd wave of Covid Pandemic. Further, he informed that in addition to the Karkala Taluk Hospital, Adani Foundation had previously provided grant in aid of Rs. 40 lakhs to Udupi District Administration for establishing pediatric ICU ventilator beds at Government Hospital, Udupi and Kundapura.
