Mangaluru, May 16: Schools throughout Karnataka reopened on Monday May 16, on full scale after two years. Schools in Mangaluru are decorated and a festive mood was created for the students on the first day.
The Education department has instructed the teachers and administrative committees of schools to distribute sweets to children and hold cultural programme and make the environment a happy one for the students.
Academic year 2022-23 is being started 15 days ahead of schedule. This year is declared as ‘Kalika Chetharike Varsha’. Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai will inaugurate the Kalika Chetharike programme at Tumakuru. Mid-day meals are arranged for students. They are also allowed to travel in KSRTC and BMTC buses by producing bus passes of last year.
The department has also initiated ‘Malebillu’ programme for two weeks in order to attract students towards school through extra-curricular activities.
Block Education Officers and SDMCs are instructed to hold meetings to ensure provision of drinking water in schools, mid-day meals, uniform, text books, attendance and new admissions. Also they have to implement Akshara Dasoha programme.
The education department has asked the school administrations to ensure the presence of teachers on the first day itself. DDPIs are instructed to appoint 27,000 primary guest teachers for the purpose according to information shared by Prasanna Kumar, director of primary education department.
