Udupi, May 13: ‘World Nurses Day’ was celebrated by Girija Health Care & Surgicals in association with Senior Chamber of International Temple City Legion Udupi.
Nurses from different hospitals of Udupi were felicitated near Mithra hospital on Thursday, May 12.
Dr Virupaksha Devaramane, renowned psychiatrist and Thallur Girija Shivaram Shetty, Lioness Coordinator were present as chief guests on the occasion.
Dr Virupaksha Devaramane recollected the contributions of Florence Nightingale, who is known to be the founder of modern nursing. “She worked with many soldiers during the war period. Her life and service is a lesson for all of us. Nurses are always taking care of patients more than the doctors. Hence, she should handle work pressure and sacrifice her life to do service,” he said.
He said, “Today’s young nurses have no tolerance to manage patients. But she needs to learn to manage pressure.”
Thalluru Girija Shivaram Shetty wished all the nurses the best and that god should give them good health and good life. “This is a very meaningful programme,” she said.
Nurses who participated were Sunitha, Rosli Jathanna, Indira, Sosy, Ileen, Victoria and Mariya. Other nurses from Gandhi Hospital, Mithra Hospital, Lombardo Hospital and Prasad Nethralaya were also honoured.
Jagadish Kemmannu, president, Senior Chamber International Udupi Temple City Legion (UTCL), Santhosh Kumar, secretary, Chithrakumar, Vijay Kumar and others were present as guests on the occasion.
Ravindra Shetty, partners, Girija Health Care and Surgicals welcomed and hosted the programme.
