Udupi, May 13: Police took one man into custody and rescued a male calf that was tied to a tree in forest near Kattingeri Ganapanakatte under Belle gram panchayat limits of Shirva, with the intention of slaughtering.
Basheer, resident of Ganapanakatte, is taken into custody by the police. His friend Mohammed Harris called him and asked him to steal cattle from somewhere and bring it to the forest area. Basheer informed Harris that there are some cows left on streets of Kattingeri road. Hence, Mohammed Harris and another person decided to steal cattle, slaughter and sell and share the money equally.
On May 11, the trio brought the male calf that was lying by the side of road near Bobbarya Kere and tied the same in the forest. Mohammed Harris and another person went to bring the equipment as they decided to slaughter the calf on the night of Friday. However, station officer of Shirva Raghavendra C got the tip off and raided the spot and took Basheer into custody and rescued male calf valued at Rs 5000.
A case in this connection is registered in Shirva police station.
