Udupi, May 9: “No damage is done to Congress party because of Pramod Madhwaraj’s quitting. This has given opportunity to new youth and capable leaders. There is no need for party workers to feel that there is no leadership in the party,” said Congress leader Prasad Raj Kanchan.

Speaking to reporters at the Press Club in the city, Prasad said, “There is no dearth of leadership in the party. A capable leader is our district president. After 2018 elections, Pramod’s popularity came down. He had stopped interacting with party workers since a year. Various discussions are going on in the party of giving opportunity to others. The party is also mulling of giving chance to women or backward caste people.

“I have never asked for MLA ticket. I have come from political background family. Only if the Congress workers are willing, I will think of contesting.

“Congress party workers of rural region should not take any hasty decision because of the resignation of Pramod Madhwaraj. It is his personal decision.

“Mogaveera community has its own capability to take decision. So Congress is not appeasing any community. People will decide after seeing at the leadership,” he said.

Mairmadi Sudhakar Shetty, former zilla panchayat member, Sanjeeva Salian and Pradeep Poojary were present.
