Udupi, May 3: The Christian leaders of the district submitted a memorandum to Congress party for considering a Christian candidate for the Rajya Sabha aeat vacated by the demise of Oscar Fernandes.
Various Christian leaders met Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, district Congress president and submitted the memorandum to be sent to D K Shivakumar, KPCC president.
Oscar Fernandes passed away on September 13,2021 when he was serving as a member of Rajya Sabha. Since then his seat has been vacant. Christian leaders from the district have now urged the Congress party to consider a leader from the community for the post.
Louis Lobo and Dr Neri Cornelio, representatives of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Association, Jitendra Furtado and Michael R D'Souza, representatives of Bharatiya Chrriystha Okkuta, Veronica Cornelio, Mary D'Souza, Ida Gibba D'Souza of Catholic Sabha Udupi, Peter Danti, Pastors Associations Udupi, Thomas Suvares and Allen Lewis of St Mary's Syrian Cathedral Brahmavar, Sadanand Kanchan representing United Basil Mission Trust and Udupi, and Prashant Jathanna representing Church of South India (CSI) were part of the delegation.
