Mangaluru, May 1: One of the most auspicious festivals for Muslims, Eid ul-Fitr is celebrated by Muslims across the globe. It marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
The celebrations on Eid are usually filled with grandeur with families coming together for a feast. However, given the coronavirus situation in the country, Eid could be a low key celebration this year. As the first appearance of the Shawwal moon was not reported on Sunday night, the date for breaking the fast will be Tuesday, May 3.
The Dakshina Kannada Qazi, Al-Haj Twaka Ahmed Musliyar and Udupi Qazi, Zainul Ulama Al Haj Abdul Hameed Musliyar have jointly informed that Eid will be celebrated on May 3 in the twin districts.
Generally, the Islamic community in India celebrates the festival a day later than in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on May 3 in India.
