Hubballi, Apr 28: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has promised to constitute a panel to control hate speech as directed by the Supreme Court.
Speaking to media representatives at the Hubballi airport on Thursday, April 28 the Chief Minister said it is unfortunate that the hate speeches occur all over India, particularly on the social media.
The State Government is determined to control the spread of hate speech on the directions of the apex court.
Bommai asserted that mother tongue was supreme and all must respect the mother tongue.
The Chief Minister supported the tweet by Kannada film actor Sudeep, popularly known as Kiccha, against the tweet on social media by Bollywood film actor Ajay Devgan on Hindi as the national language and asserted that mother tongue and regional languages have their own importance and place especially after the formation of states on the basis of languages.
He said India is land of multiple religions and people of different religions live harmoniously and peacefully as citizens of the same country.
Answering questions on Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekara Rao that Indians live in different countries and they will suffer if communal strife increased in the country, Bommai said religious fundamentalism and other narrow considerations have no place in a secular country like India.
No Covid 4th wave, yet
The Chief Minister said Karnataka does not face the threat of Covid 4th wave and the situation is fairly under control so far.
The spike in cases in the last few days, particularly after April 9, is a matter of concern. But the government is taking adequate precautionary measures to prevent the spread or spurt in cases, he said.
He said the Covid situation saw resurgence mainly account of refusal of the people to take the vaccines in Europe and some other countries. However, as many as 98% of the adult population has already taken both doses in the State, he said.
With the Union Government’s green signal to vaccinate children in the age group of 6 to 12 years, Karnataka will start vaccination at the primary school level itself. In addition, testing will be accorded more importance and all positive cases will be subjected to genome sequencing, the Chief Minister added.
