Mangaluru, Apr 20: Charan Raj (30), a resident of Amblamogaru's Madaka who killed himself in Shambhavi Hotel on Tuesday April 19, is said to be a jilted and assaulted lover.
In a video made prior to his death, the deceased had confessed that he took the extreme step because of unrequited love with a relative girl and subsequent assault on him by her family members.
It may be recalled that this is the second suicide in the same lodge just days after contractor Santhosh Patil's suicide which cost former state minister K S Eshwarappa his seat.
Charan Raj
Charan Raj who had gone missing since Sunday evening was found dead in Sambhavi lodge on Tuesday. A good cricketer, Charan had returned home after playing a tournament in Amblamogaru.
Charan Raj was in love with a relative girl of Madoor. Her family members came to know of this and the girl's brother had taken Charan Raj to their house on Sunday late night. Her family members warned Charan to let her go and robbed him of his two mobile phones that he was carrying at that time, reportedly.
Upset over this, Charan Raj apparently, took an old black and white handset belonging to his father before leaving the house for the last time. Later, he went to Udupi, bought a new handset and put the SIM card from his father's mobile number in it. He then recorded the video narrating the unfair treatment from the girl's house. In the same video, Charan has also mentioned about his sister's engagement and Rs 3 lac he had saved up for her wedding.
Second suicide despite 'Homa' at lodge spending thousands of rupees
The Shambhavi Hotel management had conducted a 'Homa', a few days ago after contractor Santhosh Patil's suicide. It is said they had spent Rs 50, 000 on the rituals to ward off evil. However, Charan Raj happened to be the first customer of the lodge after it lay vacant after Patil's suicide. He had booked a room on the second floor where he killed himself.
