Sullia, Apr 9: The KSRTC began to get diesel filled in their buses from private petrol bunks in the wake of cancellation of subsidy by the union government on diesel that was used in government-run buses.
It is noticed that KSRTC Sullia depot buses were getting their diesel tanks filled at private petrol bunks.
When the union government was providing subsidies on diesel, KSRTC used to get a litre of diesel at Rs 65 to Rs 70. Now the cost has risen to Rs 107 per litre due to the cancellation of the rebate. In private petrol bunks, diesel is available at Rs 94 per litre. So the KSRTC decided to fill the diesel from private petrol pumps.
It is said that 50000 litre diesel is required for three depots of Mangaluru, Kundapur and Udupi depots which fall under Mangaluru division. Sources said that most of this requirement is fulfilled by private petrol bunks at present.
State transport buses in Tamil Nadu and Kerala also are opting for private petrol pumps for diesel due to the cancellation of subsidy by the union government.
