Bengaluru, Apr 8: The experts have warned that prohibition on buying of Halal cut meat being compelled by the Hindu right wing organizations, will create a difficult situation for the farmers rearing chicken, goat and sheep.
Public health inventor Dr Silvia Karpagam had recently released a report on cow meat ban and highlighted how cattle farmers are facing hardships. They are unable to pay back the loan, hence are not willing to buy cattle from other farmers.
“The biggest fear faced by those who rear sheep, goat and chicken is the involvement of big organizations and the entry of middlemen. Local traders buy the animals. But middlemen will gobble all the profits,” says Dr Silvia.
Dr Rajeshwari Shankar, president of AWAKE says, “Most of the people who are involved in the business of sheep and goat, including transportation and slaughterhouse are Muslims.” She calls upon the people to volunteer to train farmers of rural areas.
Dr Shankar says, “Farmers will surely face hardship if Halal cut meat is prohibited. Traders will not buy the meat from Muslim suppliers. This will affect the supply chain and finally the farmers who are rearing these animals will suffer."
“Most of the farmers belong to the labour class, vagabonds, landless or small land holders. Most of them get involved in the trading of sheep, goat and chicken. Those who are into sheep and goat trading are poor farmers.”
