Uppinangady, Apr 5: A Muslim youth traveling with his girlfriend of other faith has been assaulted severely by miscreants waylaying their auto rickshaw here.
Nazeer (21), a resident of Puttur was travelling in the company of his girlfriend Pooja belonging to another faith in an auto rickshaw on Tuesday April 5 in the noon when three miscreants waylaid their auto rickshaw at Derane, Siribagilu village here.
The rickshaw was heading to Uppinangady on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway. The miscreants identified as Surendra, Theertha Prasad, Jithesh and others asked the Nazeer his name and his girlfriend in the auto. They hurled expletives at Nazeer asking him if he wants a Hindu girl to roam around with.

They assaulted Nazeer by hand, hitting him on his face, head and other places of his body recklessly. They also broke a stick from nearby shrubs and hit Nazeer with it on his back, legs and hands threatening to kill him if he goes about with a Hindu girl. They also hurled expletives at the girl.
A police case under registration No. 47/2022 section 143, 147, 341, 504, 323, 324, 506, 153(a), R/W 149 IPC is registered against Surendra, Theertha Prasad, Jithesh and others at Uppinangady police station in this connection.
