Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 4: Most parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received good amount of rain on Sunday April 3 evening, thereby reducing the simmering mercury that was prevailing since a week.
For the past two days, coastal districts experienced cloudy weather and extreme humidity that caused intense heat and uneasiness.
On Sunday night, Kundapur, Gangolli and Beltangady received copious amounts of rain. In Gangolli, damage to property is reported in some areas.
Mangaluru
Bantwal, Kadaba, Charmady, Mundaje, Dharmasthala and Beltangady experienced rains accompanied with thunder and lightning. Balpa, Kenya in Sullia and Mangaluru city also received good amount of rains.
It is reported that some parts of Beltangady received rains with snowballs. Outskirts of Mangaluru received copious amounts of rain on the night of Sunday.
Kundapur and Byndoor saw heavy rains with thunder and lightning. Vehicle drivers, especially two-wheeler riders had a tough time in the rain. Electricity supply was cut off for many hours. Koteshwara, Thekkatte, Basrur, Kandlur, Vandse, Jadkal, Selkodu, Mudoor, Kollur, Byndoor, Shiroor, Uppunda, Nagur, Kirimanjeshwara, Navunda, Maravanathe, Alur, Nada, Gangolli, Hemmadi, Talluru, Halady, Neralakatte, Siddapur, Hosangadi, Hallihole, Ajri, Halady, Amparu, Shankaranarayana, Goliangadi, Belve, Madamakki, Hengavalli, Amasebailu and Ullur areas experienced copious amounts of rain with thunder and lightning.
Coconut tree fell on the house of Subraya Sherugar near water tank of Gangolli. Family members who were inside the house escaped by running out of the house in nick of time. TV and other household items got damaged and cattle shed also is broken.
Trees and electricity poles got uprooted in many places of Gangolli. Power supply was disrupted in many areas.
