Udupi, Apr 3: The Brahmavar Police have nabbed a thief within 24 hours of the crime and recovered a gold necklace worth Rs 50,000 from the accused.
The accused has been identified as Suresh alias Surya (31), is a resident of Bengaluru who hails from Pejamanguru village in Brahmavar taluk.
On Friday, the accused Suresh had barged into the house of Vasu Poojary in Cherkadi village of Brahmavar. Vasu Poojary's wife Prema was alone and was busy washing utensils at home when Suresh broke open the bolts of the backdoor to gain entry into the house. He reportedly ransacked the house and made away with a golden necklace weighing 10 gram. On realising that she was robbed, Prema raised an alarm and informed her husband about the crime.
The Brahmavar Police led by Circle Inspector Anantha Padmanabha and his PSI Gurunath B Hadimani along with Mukta Bai were able to nab the thief using the traditional method of going with the clues provided by the complainant and without taking any technological assistance.
The police on interrogating Suresh found that two cases of theft were registered against him in Karkala. It was also found that he had been in a remand home for seven years for committing a juvenile crime.
The accused Suresh was working as a pourakarmika with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.
