Bengaluru, Apr 3: Five Bajrang Dal (BD) workers, who attacked a Muslim meat trader selling Halal meat, were arrested in Shivamogga. In the midst of this, the campaign against halal meat by the BD workers has intensified throughout the state a day after Ugadi.
Meanwhile, CM Bommai has requested the public to maintain peace and celebrate the day after Ugadi without causing any law and order issues.
The day after Ugadi, non-vegetarians in the state eat Mutton and Chicken. Righwing workers are urging Hindus not to eat Halal meat, contending it is offered to Allah and it is like showing disrespect to the Hindu Gods. They are calling people to eat only Jhatka cut meat.
Shivamogga SP B M Laxmiprasad said that two incidents of attack on Muslim traders selling halal meat were reported in Bhadravati town. One case under Hosamane police station limits another one is reported from Old Town police station limits.
Under Hosamane police station limits, five people went to a shop and asked for Jhatka meat. When the shop owner refused, the shop was closed forcefully. Officials say that one boy who was working in the shop was assaulted and his head injured.
In another incident, some miscreants went to Janata Hotel and threatened the owner not to sell Halal meat. A case in this regard is filed in the Old Town police station. One officer said that the customer who questioned the gang about this was assaulted.
In both the incidents, the same accused have been named by the victims. A case is registered against them and they have been taken into custody. The five arrested are Vadivelu, Srikanth, Krishna, Sawai Singh and Gunda as per the details provided by the SP.
