Belthangady, Mar 28: The Dharamastala police have arrested Mithun Chawhan (31) and recovered from his own house at Sangola taluk, Solapur, Maharashtra a gold chain weighing 37 grams worth Rs 80, 000, a gold Laxmi chain weighing 8.04 grams worth Rs 32, 000, another gold chain weighing 16.230 grams worth Rs 65, 000 and a 10.2 grams gold bracelet worth Rs 40, 000, another bracelet worth approximately Rs 14,500 and a 2.190 gram gold ring worth Rs 8,500 allegedly stolen by him from a bag of a pilgrim.
Sridhar Nayari, who had lost the items from his bag which was kept aside by him while having bath had filed a police complaint at Dharmastala police station in this connection under registration No.08/2022 section 379 IPC.
The suspect is alleged to be a habitual offender targeting various pilgrimage centres in the country. A case of theft at Pune, Maharashtra against him was cracked by the police there.
The police team headed by assistant SP Bantwal, Pratap Singh Torat and police circle inspector, Belthangady, Shivakumar in the company of PSI Kirshnakanth A Patil, head constables Bennichan, Prashanth, C Rahul and constables Sathish Naika, C Viju, Ravindra, Krishnappa, district computer cell’s Sampath and Diwaker took part in the operation. It was conducted under the guidance of SP Hrishikesh Sonavane and additional SP Kumar Chandra. District SP has announced a reward for the team for cracking the case.
