Kasargod: Mastermind Behind Marad Massacre Plan Held

Kasargod, Jan 27: K P Koya Monu alias K P Hydros Kutty (45) was arrested by the shadow policemen from Nainamvalappu area of Kozhikode on Wednesday January 26. Kutty, a native of Anangady in Kandaludndy, is accused of masterminding Marad massacre in which, nine persons were hacked to death mercilessly in the year 2003.

A team of policemen, led by head of shadow police contingent, Jaison K Abraham, trailed Kutty for 11 days before taking him into custody. The shadow policemen in plain clothes had lurked him to confirm his identity. The policemen said that he had been living in hiding in the home of a relative for the last four and half years.

Kutty allegedly was the main perpetrator and planner of the Marad, Kadappura, mass massacre that occurred on May 2, 2003. The incident had shaken the entire country. Kutty, an expert in making bombs, had come to Marad with bombs on that fateful day. However, at the last minute, he chose not to use the bombs, and instead, hacked nine innocent persons by indiscriminately hitting them with swords, along with some others. A number of people have been found guilty and jailed in this connection.

Kutty, who had lied low for about six months at various places around Kozhikode immediately after the incident, had stayed in a relative’s house in Manjerali in Karimnagar district, Andhra Pradesh, for three years. About four and half years ago, he came back to Kozhikode, and started living secretly in a relative’s house in Nainamvalappu area. Whenever there were functions or gatherings, he shifted his residence temporarily, and he rarely ventured out of his hiding, the policemen say.
