Mangaluru, Mar 26: An unidentified car knocked down a scooter that was driven by a woman at Kapikad on national highway 66 on Saturday March 26 and sped away. The pillion rider was killed in the accident. The police are now making efforts to trace the car which caused the hit-and-run accident.
The woman who lost her life in the accident was Emilda D'Souza belonging to the prestigious John Bakery family. She was residing near Umamaheshwar temple at Kapikad near Thokottu. On the occasion of the birthday celebrations of her granddaughter on Saturday, Emilda had visited Thokottu church early in the morning, and had returned after taking part in the special prayers. She had walked half of the distance with relatives towards her home and was picked by a lady known to her named Flavy D'Souza, who was riding an Activa scooter.
When the scooter reached near Raj Caterers at Kapikad, a car which came behind rammed into the two-wheeler from behind. The pillion rider, Emilda, was thrown to the road. She was rushed to a hospital immediately, but passed away before reaching there. Scooter rider Flavy D'Souza (47) was injured and now being treated in a hospital.
It is said that Emilda had made arrangements to celebrate the birthday of her granddaughter by ordering Idlis for lunch. The family plunged into the abysmal gloom of grief because the lady died on the birthday of her granddaughter. Emilda is survived by husband, a son, a daughter, and grandchildren.
City south traffic police have registered a case and investigation is on.
