Chitradurga, Mar 25: After a ghastly accident occured in Pavagada taluk when an excessive number of passengers were travelling inside and on top of a bus there.
State transport minister B Sriramulu had visited the spot. He also created a furore there.
However, in his own constituency, Molakalmuru, transport facilities are woefully bad. People including workers and students are forced to travel in excessively loaded private buses, auto rickshaws, tempo trucks, lorries etc., by sometimes climbing atop the vehicles and clinging on to whatever they can hold.
Sriramulu, who represents Molakalmuru constituency in Chitradurga district, is expected to concentrate on the development of his constituency. But because of the shortage of buses, students and others are forced to struggle to reach their educational institutions on time.
Students coming from the border villages of the taluk risk their lives and travel on the tops of buses, lorries, tempos etc, hoping that they would make it to the destinations safely. Some villages in Molakalmuru constituency do not have bus connectivity. As there are no government buses to rural areas, people are mainly dependent on private vehicles here.
People like students and workers visiting towns and urban areas do not have proper buses to travel. Their miseries have no takers. Therefore they hang on to luggage auto, tempo, private buses etc., to reach their destinations.
Several gory accidents have occured at Molakalmuru and Rampur but they have failed to make an impact and bring changes in the system. The RTO and policemen have failed to regulate the movement of private vehicles even after several lives were lost. The people are blaming the transport minister for neglecting the interests of the people of his constituency.
Even though the people had handed over petitions seeking bus services, the KSRTC officials have provided transport to a few villages. The people point out that this is the situation in the home constituency of the transport minister and therefore feel that people living in other parts of the state have no chance of getting any improvements through him. There are no bus services to Rampura, JB Halli, Dadagur, Guddadahalli, Timmapura, Karadihalli, Bommadevara Halli, Santhegudda, Vaderahalli, Hirekerehalli, Obalapura, Kelagina Kanive, Megala Kanive,Basapura,Bandravi, Macchenahalkli, Devaknasamudra etc in Molakalmuru constituency.
Villages like JB Halli, Kannakuppe and Bandravi can be reached by government buses only twice, once in the morning and then in the evening. Therefore the people are travelling by various modes of private transport. The people wish that the private vehicles are taken off and government buses are introduced.
