Mumbai: Yeddyurappa's Corruption, Nepotism on Record: Moily

Mumbai, Jan 22 (IANS) Union Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily Saturday slammed Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, saying the alleged corruption and nepotism charges against him are "on record" and Governor H.R. Bhardwaj was well within his authority to sanction his prosecution.

"Corruption is on record, nepotism is on record," Moily told reporters here in reply to questions about the developments in Karnataka where the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a shutdown to protest Bhardwaj's nod for filing criminal case against Yeddyurappa on corruption charges.

The law minister said "no one is above the rule of law" and chief ministers don't enjoy immunity from the law.

"It is not the governor who will decide the case. Ultimately, it is for the judiciary (to do that)… Governor has the authority to sanction prosecution against chief ministers," he said, defending Bhardwaj.

The law minister flayed the ruling BJP for resorting to violence to enforce the shutdown during which activists torched buses, pelted stones and attacked shops across Karnataka.

"They (BJP) are defending the corruption at the highest level," he said.

The governor gave permission Friday night to launch criminal proceedings against Yeddyurappa, as sought by two Bangalore-based advocates, Sirajin Basha and K.N. Balaraj, over revelations that the chief minister had favoured his close kin with prime land in and around Bangalore.

    Obviously Mr. Moily has to support his"Ghar ka Aadmi" Mr Bharadwaj and also when the green signal has been given from Congress High command.Actually Mr Yediyurappa should have resigned as a gentleman when the problem precipitated.He has stupidly invited embarassment to himself and to the BJP.He has already caused enough damage to the reputation of the party BJP which is quite clear from various Panchayat election results.

    I hope this incident will be the best example & warning for all other politicians to behave and act properly and also to keep their sons/son in laws,wife,bror in laws etc away and not to allow them to interfere/meddle in day to day administrative affairs. Unfortunately we do not have another dependable political party alternative to BJP,as BJP charges are minor compared to the massive corruption practice of congress and ugly style of JDS.Hence if BJP in Karnataka learns lesson from the current incident ,still it is far preferred and superior than other political parties. If not for the Godhra incident Gujarath style administration and decipline should be the model for the rest of the states in India.

    Moileeji resorting on voilence by BJP is counter productive and MOORKATANADA PARAMAVVADI and HATHASHE BAVANE.After all BJP stands for voilence when we look at it's record.
