Mangalore City Corporation Carries out Drive against Use of Plastic Bags

Mangalore, Jan 20: Under the guidance of commissioner K N Vijaya Prakash, environment officer Manjunath, assistant health officer Krishnappa Gowda, health inspectors Basavaraj and Babu Mallan, revenue officer Meghana among others on Thursday January 20 conducted a raid operation in the city to check out the use of plastic bags marked below 20 microns.
The team visited shops located at Gokul and central market areas. The team also found sale of black coloured plastic bags marked below 20 microns. The officers now plan to raid the factories in Bykampady where the bags are being manufactured. It will be carried out within six to ten days of time. The team also raided some of the hotels on receiving complaints that hygiene is not given priority at some hotels in the city.
The team also said owners of some vegetable shops located in the central market to remove their shop as waste vegetable was found being sold. Some particular customers would buy those rotten vegetable for lesser price and make use of it. There was also a complaint that those waste vegetables are sold to some hotels by Tamil women vegetable vendors.
Commissioner today insisted the officers to take strict action against all these disorders. The footpath vendors who have encroached the space illegally are also targeted by MCC.
