New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) The sports ministry has a "very important role" to play in handling disputes related to the Commonwealth Games (CWG), India's new Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Ajay Maken said here Thursday.
"Minister of sports has a very important role and we do not deny any role or responsibility which has been put on us. The ministry being the nodal ministry has a very important role as far as these disputes are concerned," Maken told NDTV.
Maken replaces M.S. Gill as sports minister as part of Wednesday's shuffle of the council of ministers by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The move comes in the backdrop of corruption scandals clouding the CWG, the latest being Australia raising the issue of pending payments with External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.
Maken, however, said that he could give details of the next course of action only after looking into the matter in detail.
