Mangalore, Jan 19: Unlike most of the close matches in the DKCA-Century T20 cricket tournament witnessed so far, the games played at Nehru Maidan here on Wednesday January 19 were a cakewalk for the winners.
The first match of the day was between Sri Devi College and Jugul Sports. Jugul, who won the toss, blasted 181 for 4 in the stipulated overs, with Farhan (53) losing his wicket just after reaching the half-century mark. Luck, however, did not favour Ashwin Rao who fell short of the milestone when he had to return to the pavilion after scoring a valuable 42. For the opposition, Faraz was the top bowler with 3 wickets for 33.
Sri Devi players in reply were bundled out for 102 in 17.3 overs, with Jugul (3 wickets for 23) and Pushparaj (2 wickets for 18) doing most of the damage. Though Sudesh of Sri Devi tried to put on a brave front with a knock of 45, the rest of the team failed to rise to the occasion, and ultimately, Jugul Sports won by a huge margin of 79 runs.
In the second match, Someshwar Cricketers won the toss and like the trend so far in the tournament, elected to bat first. The batsman put up a challenging score of 187 for five, with Arvind (44), Sadiq (37) and Naushad (22) making valuable contributions. For the opposition, United N Shirva, Mithesh proved economical, conceding 12 runs and claiming one wicket.
United N Shirva, however, could only muster 131 in 20 overs at the loss of 8 wickets, with the top scorer Abhijith hitting 34. Vinay's 2 wickets for 20 and Arvind's 2 for 18 did the job for Someshwar who won by 56 runs.
