Mumbai, Mar 10: In two separate road accidents that occurred in the city, a senior citizen and a two-year-old child were killed. Police arrested the drivers of both vehicles that caused the accidents.
In the first incident that took place at Kandivili East, Jiva Yadav, two year old, was playing outside her relative’s house on March 6. Her mother had come down to her maternal uncles home along with the deceased and another daughter. Jiva was killed when a tempo crashed into her while she was playing outside the gate. Her relative saw the accident as it happened and rushed the child to the hospital along with other neighbours but the child was pronounced dead on arrival. The tempo driver was immediately taken into custody by the police.
In another incident a senior citizens died at Charkop. The deceased is identified as Eliana Thomas (65). She was going to a nearby church at Rathodi village in an autorickshaw. After getting down from the rickshaw as she was walking on the side of the road, a overspeed tipper knocked her down. A severely injured Eliana was rushed to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Mohammed Ansari, the driver of the tipper was arrested by the police for rash driving. He has been sent to police custody.
