Dubai, Jan 15: It was in late 2006 that a few friends got together with a common aim for a social cause, to do their bit for the needy. February 2007 saw the first organized attempt by the 'Narayana Seva Samiti' to serve the needy by providing monthly dry rations to labour camps in Dubai. Since then, many more volunteers joined hands and the Seva activities increased manifold.
To mark the anniversary of the Samiti, the volunteers organize an "Akhanda Bhajan Mahotsav" in January every year. This year, the 4th Akhanda Bhajan Mahotsav was held on Friday January 14, at the Karama Center auditorium, Dubai. Various Bhajan Mandals and Satsang groups from all over the UAE participated in this day-long event.
The programme began at 6 am with the lighting of the Akhanda Jyoti which was placed in the center of a delightfully bright and colourful floral rangoli. The puja mantap was magnificently adorned with an arch decorated with a variety of colourful flowers and the idol of the lord was seated on a Ratha specifically made for the event.
The Narayana Seva Samiti was the first to make an offering of melodious bhajans praising the lord, and was followed by various other groups namely Mogaveera – UAE, Sri Raaja Rajeshwari Bhakta Vrinda, Sharjah Satsangh group, Vishwakarma group, Abu Dhabi Amchigele Samaj, Srikanth Bhat and group, Padmashali group, Gift A Satsang group, Sai Sannidhanam, Art of Living group and Yaksha Mitru - Dubai. Narayan Seva Samiti volunteers lead the chant during the Mangala arati around 7 pm, and later distributed Mahaprasad to all devotees.
This auspicious and unique event was successful in lighting the lamp of wisdom and love in the heart of everyone present, and its unifying effect was felt by one and all.
