Mangalorean Lass Lyned Lasrado Bags Young Scientist Award

Shimla, Jan 13: Lyned Dafney Lasrado was conferred the ‘Young Scientist’ award at the 25th Carbohydrate Conference held at Himachal Pradesh University here, recently.
The conference was organized by the Association of Carbohydrate Chemists and Technologists, India (ACCTI), a scientific body consisting of academicians, scientists, technologists and industrialists, in collaboration with the Chemistry Department, Himachal Pradesh University. The theme of the CARBO XXV was ‘Recent advances in chemistry and technology of carbohydrates.
The Association in collaboration with research institutes and universities has been organizing ‘Carbohydrate Conference’ since 1984 and offers a common platform for fruitful interaction and to have a consensus view to encourage and motivate the young generation to enter and explore the frontiers of carbohydrate chemistry and biology. Such interaction in the form of deliberations, presentations and invited lectures would provide and help development of fundamental aspects, technological breakthrough and technologies or processes related to structure and synthesis, biochemistry and biotechnology and industrial applications of carbohydrates.
At the conference she also bagged the ‘Best Research Paper’ award for her presentation on ‘In vitro fermentation of xylo-oligosaccharides by Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains’.
Currently she is pursuing her Doctoral Research under CSIR Research Fellowship on ‘The utilization of Xylooligosaccharides by Lactobacillus and the health benefits of Xylooligosaccharides’ at Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysore, under the guidance of Dr G Muralikrishna.
She is an alumna of St Aloysius College (PUC, BSc and MSc) and earlier of St Mary’s High School, Mangalore. She has been outstanding in academics since her school days.

Lyned is the sister of Lloyd Lasrado and daughter of Felix Lasrado and Agnes Gomes of Valencia parish, resident of Pumpwell, Mangalore. Felix is a senior manager at Souza Aluminium Industries, Mangalore.
