Yogish Bhat to Become Dy Speaker of State Assembly

Bangalore, Jan 10: Four-term Mangalore MLA from ruling BJP, N Yogish Bhat, is all set to become the Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Tuesday January 11.
The 57-year-old Bhat, a BSc graduate and a businessman by profession before he entered politics, had been chosen by the ruling BJP for filling up the post of the deputy speaker which had been vacant for a year.
Bhat, a soft-spoken and non-controversial person, was serving as the chairman of the Karnataka State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. He has experience of serving in several committees of the State Legtislature.
With the opposition parties deciding not to file their candidates for the post, Bhat’s was the only nomination to be filed on Monday, the last day for filing nomination papers with election if necessary scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
Two sets of nomination papers were filed on behalf of Bhat. While the Law and Parliamentary Affairs S Suresh Kumar proposed Bhat’s name, M P Kumaraswamy seconded it. Transport Minister R Ashok proposed and Public Works Minister C M Udasi seconded Bhat’s name in another set of papers.
