New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS): India's Shreya Agrawal shot 629.3 in the Women's 10M Air Rifle qualification round, to narrowly miss out on a semi-final berth at the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Cairo, Egypt.
According to information received here, the final and eighth qualification spot went to Hungary's Eszter Meszaros, who shot 629.4, a mere 0.1 more than Shreya.
Two other Indians in the 117-strong Women's Air Rifle field, Aayushi Gupta and Rajshree Sancheti, finished further back in 37th and 53rd positions respectively. Aayushi shot 626.1 while Rajshree returned a score of 624.3 after 60-shots.
The first medals of the competition were won today when Italy's Danilo Sollazzo struck gold in the Men's 10M Air Rifle beating Slovakia's Patrik Jany 16-14 in the gold medal match. Jani is a Tokyo 2020 finalist. The Czech Republic's Jiri Privratsky won bronze.
Tuesday, day three of competitions at the year's first ISSF World Cup, has the Men's and Women's 10M Air Pistol finals scheduled. In the Men's event Saurabh Chaudhary, Gaurav Rana and Sarabjot Singh represent India while Esha Singh, Shri Nivetha and Ruchita Vinerkar will feature in the corresponding Women's event.
Over 500 athletes from 60 nations have entered to take part in the Cairo World Cup which has 20 medal sets on offer.
