Mangalore, Jan 3: Based on the complaint received by Pramod Alva of Adyar, Lokayukta police have arrested sub jailer Tippa Naik on Monday January 3.
Under the direction of SP Jagamayyanawar, DYSP Sadananda Varnekar along with inspectors Udaya Naik, Laxmikanth, Dilip and other staffs carried out the raid operation.
The complaint given by Alva states that Naik had demanded Rs 1,000 bribe from him when he had come to jail on December 29 to hospitalize his friend Ponkra Poojary who is a prisoner. He was put behind the bars due to his involvement in the murder case of Beltangady-based teacher Perady Kotiappa Poojary.
Lokayukta could trap Naik red handedly after making Alva to pay the said money. It is accused that Tippa Naik was demanding money for hospitalizing Ponkra Poojary for his medical treatment.
The raid occurred at around 12.45 pm. Tippa Naik has been produced before the court by Lokayukta.
There are also allegations that some of the officers too demand Rs 50 or more from people who visit to see the prisoners.
