Mangaluru, Feb 16: Dakshina Kannada Youth Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) president Akshith Suvarna on Wednesday February 16 filed approached the police commissioner seeking action against a few people who allegedly used abusive words against him on social media and issued him death threats.
Suvarna said that he was abused on social media and threatened for speaking to the media on the Hijab issue.
He submitted a memorandum to police commissioner N Shashi Kumar seeking suitable action in the matter.
Suvarna also filed a police complaint in this regard.
DCP (law and order) Hariramshankar received the memorandum.
In a video released to the media, Suvarna said, "I spoke to the media about the Hijab row in the state. But a few people used abusive words against me and issued death threats on social media. I have already filed a police complaint.
"I want to tell the blind followers of BJP to have a discussion with me. It is not right to issue threats on Facebook. I will not fear these kinds of death threats," he said.
State JD(S) youth leader Faizal Rehman, district leader Sathar Bunder, Mohammed Faizal, Shrinath, Yashu Sinon and others accompanied Suvarna.
