Udupi, Jan 1: Veteran folk arts scholar K Laxminarayan Kundantaya, Tulu movie ‘Kanchildabale’ child artiste Charitra C Hegde, and Bharatanatyam dancer Vidhushi Dr Manjarichandra Sanil have been selected for the coveted ‘Vidya Ratna–2010’ instituted by Anantaraj Charitable Trust and Vidhyaniketan Group of Education Institutions.
K Laxminarayan Kundantaya
He belongs to the renowned Kundantaya family of Kunjoor, Yellur village, near here. He did his post graduation studies on Karnataka’s cultural history and has served as deputy chief editor of ‘Udayavani’ Kannada daily for 18 years besides studying and researching folk art, literature, and religious aspects of Karnataka’s cultural hierarchy. He contributed articles to the print media and to Doordarshan on ‘Vastu’, sculpture, and other vital aspects which are to be followed in renovation of temples.
He had done a survey on ‘Nagaradhane’ in Tulunadu, the splendour of Tulunadu culture, and a study of significant religious celebrations by covering over 60 temples in the coastal district. He researched on the celebrations of various festivals in Tulunadu, the importance behind such celebrations and contributed his findings in print media.
Charitra C Hegde
She is the child artiste who acted in Tulu movie ‘Kanchildabale’ directed by Krishnappa Uppoor of ‘Maribale’ fame which was her major debut in filmdom. She is the daughter of Chittaranjan Hegde and Prarthana Hegde and is a Class V student of Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar, near here. She has made her mark in Bharatanatyam and classical music and has bagged many prizes in drawings, sports, and western dance competitions.
Vidushi Dr Manjarichandra Sanil:
Alongwith her medical studies, she has studied Tulunadu culture. She is also a Bharatanatyam dancer and is the daughter of Chandrashekar Sherigar and Gulabi, residing at Korangrapady, here. She has done her medical studies at SDM Ayurveda College, Kutpady, near here, and is doing her internship. She has been trained by Vidushi Shyamala, Nratyakalasindu the late Radhakrishna Tantri for over one decade.
She has given many Bhratanatyam shows in Germany and other countries.
